The Super Falcons face a decisive Group C finale against Egypt tonight.
Nigeria’s path to the quarter-finals is clear at WAFCON ’26. They must beat Egypt. Even then, qualification is not guaranteed. The result between Malawi and Zambia will determine whether the Super Falcons advance or crash out.
Malawi lead the group with six points and a goal difference of +3. Nigeria and Zambia are level on three points each. Zambia have a goal difference of +5, while Nigeria are on 0. Egypt are bottom without a point and are already eliminated from WAFCON ’26.
Scenario 1: Nigeria Beat Egypt
If Nigeria beat Egypt, they will move to six points. Their qualification then depends on the result between Malawi and Zambia.
If Zambia beat Malawi, all three teams finish on six points. A three-way tie is created. The mini-league between Nigeria, Malawi and Zambia is considered first. Each team has three points in the mini-league. Goal difference in the mini-league decides the ranking.
Nigeria qualify in most Zambia-win scenarios. However, they could be eliminated if Zambia beat Malawi by one goal in a high-scoring match, such as 4-3 or 5-4. In that case, goals scored in the mini-league separate the teams.
If Zambia draw or lose to Malawi, Nigeria qualify with a win over Egypt. Malawi top the group. Nigeria finish above Zambia on points.
Scenario 2: Nigeria Draw Egypt
If Nigeria draw Egypt, they will finish on four points. They qualify only if Zambia do not beat Malawi. A Zambia win would eliminate Nigeria.
Scenario 3: Nigeria Lose to Egypt
If Nigeria lose to Egypt, they remain on three points. They are eliminated regardless of other results.
The Nightmare Scenario for Nigeria
Nigeria’s worst-case scenario is a Zambia win over Malawi by a one-goal margin in a match where Malawi score at least three goals (e.g., 4-3, 5-4). In that case, Nigeria could finish third on goals scored in the mini-league.

The Super Falcons must beat Egypt convincingly to improve their goal difference. They cannot rely on other results going their way. A wide victory would put pressure on the other result and give Nigeria a better chance of advancing.
Group C’s decisive night will determine two quarter-final spots. Nigeria hold their fate in their hands. A win against Egypt keeps them in contention. But the Super Falcons must also hope the Malawi-Zambia result does not conspire against them.
